2021 Bullet Journal Set Up

We have made it – it’s a new year and time for the 2021 bullet journal set up! I haven’t been posting very much the last couple of months. To tell you the truth, between COIVD and just life events, things have been crazy and I needed to take a step back. However, it’s a new year and it’s time to get started again.

I got a brand new bullet journal for Christmas this year. It came from Michael’s and I am loving this new journal. The pages are slightly thicker than my last journal and it features a pocket at the back, which is something I have been missing in my previous journals. It has a gray fabric cover which gives it a nice soft feel. Michael’s has a wide sections and is a great option for the budget bullet journal. I will link the one I have here.

I plan on using my Micron 005 and Micron 03 to complete the spreads this year.

2021Bullet Journal Theme

I spent a lot of time thinking about my bullet journal set up this year. Last year I followed the inspiration provided by Shayda Campbell (go check her out, she is awesome!) and had each month follow its respective flower. I really enjoyed completing those spreads and I enjoyed knowing what to do every month. I also liked having a theme across my bullet journal. So this year I decided to have a concessive theme, as well, and predetermined themes for each month.

This may not be known about our family but we are a bit obsessed with books. View the proof in the form of our home library below. So when I was searching for inspiration for my 2021 bullet journal, I turned to the space I have been spending the majority of my time in this past year. Now there is a lot of different ways I could have gone here. However, I decided to focus on classic children’s books. First of all, many of them already have illustrations to draw inspiration from. Secondly, they are in mostly black and white. I found after all the color last year I want to keep things simpler this year.

I will leave it a mystery for now what books I have chosen to feature. There are so many to choose from. Leave your guesses/suggestions down below!

So in choosing my 2021 bullet journal set up, I decided to go with a book theme for the first couple of pages. Drawing inspiration from the covers of books. I tried to make my cover page look like the cover of a decked out book.

The calendar pages and future log are really simple this year. I also included the quote “A cover is not the book so open it up & take a look.”

Next I have a simple grid spacing page. I have found a lot of bullet journals create these and I find them very helpful. I also included a quote by J.K Rowling, stating “I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a book.”

The final two pages are dedicated to my budget. I think looking at your budget at least yearly is important. Ours has changed quite a bit from last year and my hubby and I will be sitting down soon to go over it again.

I left a couple pages blank before I started the January spread because we have a lot of projects planned for this summer. I like to have those planning pages at the beginning of my bullet journal so they are easy to find, but I am not quite ready to fill those out yet.

Final Thoughts

So what do you think of this set up for the 2021 bullet journal? Let me know in the comments below. I, for one, am ready for a new year with a new theme and new adventures waiting for me!
